Whatever the case, our “I Love You S’More” Cake will surprise and delight all the special people you love this Valentine’s! We’ve taken the ooey-gooey deliciousness of a smores and baked it into this decadent dessert we know you’ll fall in love with – read on for the recipe!
Our family absolutely adores gathering in the backyard around our fireplace to roast s’mores (check out some of our downloadable Gourmet S’Mores Bar printables here). There’s just something special about roasting marshmallows together around a roaring fire, isn’t there? We also happen to love puns, so when the idea for an “I Love You S’More” cake popped into my mind, I knew I had a winner for Valentine’s Day!
You and your loved ones will adore the combination of chocolate, marshmallow frosting and graham crackers in this show-stopping cake! It’s simple to put together (albeit a little sticky) and it’s totally fun because you get to use a kitchen torch to roast your marshmallows inside! Woohoo! The recipe and detailed instructions are below, but let me walk you through the easy assembly next…
I Love You S’More Cake Recipe
First you’ll want to gather all of your ingredients and supplies so you’re ready to go. I decided to use a chocolate cake mix from a box to keep my baking time down, but you’re welcome to make a chocolate cake from scratch if you have the time and a favorite recipe!
I wanted a small, but tall cake, so I divided my cake batter into three 6-inch non-stick cake pans and baked them according to the box directions. Any size or shape of cake will work – pick what you like best!
While the cakes are baking, you can mix up your marshmallow cream frosting! I adapted a simple buttercream recipe and used a whole jar of Marshmallow Creme. It will be sticky as you being to mix it up, but should spread easily during assembly.
After the cakes had cooled, I leveled each one (you can use a leveling tool to make this job easy and precise) and placed the first layer on my cake plate.
Next you’ll add about half a cup of frosting and spread it evenly over the first layer. Next, top with the next layer of cake and repeat.
Finally, add your top layer of cake and cover the entire cake in frosting. Remember you’ll want to reserve some icing to decorate the top, so don’t use it all!
Once your cake is frosted and the icing is still sticky, add crumbled graham crackers around the bottom half of the cake. I just used my hands and sprinkled and pressed them into the icing. The texture and taste of the graham crackers is one of my favorite things about this cake, so when I make it again, I’m going to add even more!
Next, using a piping bag with a star tip, add your remaining frosting to the bag and decorate the top of your cake. I created two layers of frosting, swirled in loose circles all around the top outside edge. You could also do dollops of icing like we did on the top of our Eggnog Cake.
Next, add several large marshmallows to the center of your cake and grab your kitchen torch – this is the fun part! Carefully use your torch to brown the marshmallows in the center, doing your best to avoid the icing on the cake (even though it has marshmallow creme, which can brown, it’s buttercream and will melt quickly if it gets hot)!
Once your marshmallows are roasted to your likeness, sprinkles a few more graham crackers on top and add some heart chocolates to finish it off! You may want to place your cake in the refrigerator to allow the frosting to harden and set before serving, but it isn’t necessary.
I can’t wait for you to serve up this adorable little “I Love You S’More” Cake for Valentine’s Day! You and your family are going to love it! Be sure to Pin this post so you have it ready to go for Valentine’s!

- Mix and bake your cakes according to mix directions (I baked in three 6-inch nonstick round pans for 30 minutes).
- Allow cakes to cool completely and then level each cake.
- Prepare frosting by mixing 2 sticks of softened butter with the jar of Marshmallow Fluff. Once combined, slowly add one cup of powdered sugar until you get to your desired consistency. If you'd like, add one teaspoon of vanilla extract for additional flavor. Mix completely.
- Place the first layer of cake on your cake stand and top with about half a cup of frosting. Spread the frosting evenly across the top of the layer.
- Add the second layer of cake and top with another half cup of frosting, spreading evenly.
- Add the top layer of cake and cover the entire cake with frosting, making sure to reserve at least 1.5 cups of frosting to decorate the top of the cake.
- Gently crush your graham crackers and use the crumbs and sprinkles to decorate the sides of your cake. Using your hands, gently press the graham cracker pieces into the cake as desired.
- Add the remaining frosting to a piping bag with a star tip and decorate the top of the cake by making swirls of frosting around the outside edge of the cake as shown. Repeat so you have two layers of frosting for added height.
- Add about five large marshmallows to the center of your cake. Using your kitchen torch, gently roast the marshmallows until you achieve the color you desire.
- Finish decorating your cake by sprinkling additional graham cracker pieces on the top of the cake and topping it with several chocolate heart candies. Enjoy!
