When plans for a big 40th Birthday celebration were cancelled due to COVID-19, this birthday girl’s hubby reached out to Erin of Events by Pins & Petals to quickly plan a very special, albeit smaller in scope, dinner party at their home in California. With an elegant bohemian vibe in mind, Erin designed a dreamy 40th birthday party for the guest of honor and her guests! Bohemian 40th Birthday Invitations
You always want to begin by setting the stage for your theme with a beautiful invitation. This bohemian themed invitation by Dream Paper Company is elegant and girly – the perfect fit! I just love this color palette, don’t you?
Alternatively, this colorful floral boho invitation by Best Celebrations with the handwritten 40 would work great for the theme too!
Bohemian Party Decor Ideas
The birthday girl’s backyard was elegantly decorated with several special focal areas. First and foremost was the long wooden dinner table lined with gold chairs, where guests enjoyed food, drinks and great conversation. Running down the center of the table was a soft pink table runner, topped with a mix of florals, gold vases and tall candles. The flowers, designed by Bellevue Floral Co., were a whimsical mix of whites, blushes, greens and pampas grasses, with pops of yellow. These combined with the free-flowing table runner, really helped bring the bohemian vibe of the party to life.
Additional focal areas include the show-stopping marquee number installation! The giant “40” surrounded by a giant balloon garland with flowing greenery and roses was the perfect spot for the birthday girl to memorialize her big day!
If you’re planning a backyard dinner party, don’t forget about creating a special place for the bar as well as designating an outdoor seating space for casual conversation. I love bringing indoor furniture outside at parties like this! These elegant vintage pieces, along with a cozy knit rug and decorative pillows added to the bohemian feel of the night. Don’t forget to add coffee tables, lighting and more florals too! This makes the outdoor seating area feel more like a room and brings in some practicality, like giving guests a place to set their drink while they talk or enjoy hors d’oeuvres.
The final outdoor space I want to bring your attention to is another photo booth. Beautifully styled with plenty of bohemian details, the wicker chair with floral swag, hanging wall tapestry and tall pampas grass floral display set the stage for capturing pictures this 40-year old will remember for years to come!
Bohemian Party Food & Drink Inspiration
Guests at Vasavi’s party were treated to a variety of delicious appetizers and dishes from Charming Fig. How amazing does this grazing board look? It’s the perfect fit for a boho party theme!
Several signature cocktails were also offered at the bar, but the one that caught my eye… this delightful pink drink topped with cotton candy! How much fun!
Finally, this lucky birthday girl had not one, but two birthday cakes! The first delightfully designed cake by Confections by Jules was a perfect match for the the bohemian party and almost too beautiful to eat! The second cake, also designed by Confections by Jules, was much more playful, wore a face mask and made light of this crazy pandemic (did you notice it was topped in mini toilet paper rolls?!).
Overall, the was a joyful night of celebration that Vasavi, her family and friends will long remember. This Bohemian Backyard Birthday is proof that a smaller intimate dinner party can be just as fabulous as a large extravagant party elsewhere!
