Is there anything sweeter than your birthday when you’re young?! I know my kiddos love thinking about their parties, what themes they might have, who they want to invite… the whole ordeal is fun and exciting when you’re little! This year however, with the pandemic, has looked a little different for birthday parties, but that doesn’t mean we don’t celebrate – it means we get creative! Join me as we take a look at these Sweet Ideas for a Candy Land Car Parade and Backyard Birthday Party!
Candy Land is a classic childhood game that lends itself perfectly to a little girl’s birthday party theme! I mean, what’s not to love about bright colors and plenty of candy?! For Holland’s 6th Birthday, her family went all out with an elaborate Candy Land car parade open to all her friends, and a smaller but still sweet, family-only party in the backyard. The theme details were brought to life with giant gummy bears, ice cream cones and a decked out candy cart! Let’s take a look at all the sweet details…
Celebrating a birthday during COVID can be difficult so Holland’s birthday party was a 2-part celebration: a fun and elaborate Candy Land themed car-parade open to all friends and family to participate in, followed by an intimate family-only party in the backyard. Both the car-parade and the backyard party were fun and colorful and bright keeping in the Candy Land theme complete with giant gummy bears, a candy cart fully stocked with all the candy you can imagine, and an over-the-top balloon arch to finish off the candy-land backdrop! No detail was missed for this sweet girls 6th birthday party!
Candy Land Car Parade
Honestly, one of the best things to come out of our COVID filled year is the car parade! And Holland’s party really took the idea to a whole other level! The birthday girl and her family greeted parade guests in front of this colorful and elaborate Candy Land backdrop! Events by Pins & Petals, along with Bijoux Balloons really knocked this out of the park, don’t you agree?

During the car parade, Holland accepted gifts and loved getting to see so many friends and family members! If you’re hosting a car parade, be sure to have a small party favor you can run out to each vehicle as a token of appreciation for showing up. You could do a small gift bag, a wrapped sugar cookie, or even these rainbow swirl lollipops.
Candy Land Party Decoration Ideas
After the car parade, a smaller family-only group celebrated in the backyard. Guest tables were elegantly set up and topped with turquoise table cloths, with brightly colored plates and napkins at each table. Each napkin was wrapped in a candy bracelet with a thank you note too – such a cute detail!
The centerpieces at each table were absolutely darling as well! Featuring large inflatable gummy bears and giant candy pieces in a variety of bright colors, they were the perfect tie-in to the fun party theme. I also love the giant acrylic CANDY letters filled with different colored crinkle paper – what a statement maker!
Candy Land Food, Drink & Dessert Inspiration
Guests at the backyard birthday party enjoyed a variety of great food, including bites from this gorgeous fruit cake and grazing board. Little guests each enjoyed cold drinks in their custom Candy Land cups and adults hit the Cocktail Bar, part of the amazing drink station, where the cocktails were adorned with what else – candy!
But what do we really want to see at a Candy Land Birthday Party? The sweets of course! Holland was in for a treat with her very own Candy Cart! This lovely white cart was decked out with not only gorgeous balloons and a giant number six, but with jars and jars of sweet candies!
The dessert table was a show-stopper too with larger than life ice cream cones and chocolate syrup provided by Little Legged Affairs, I’m sure the kids went crazy for it! Desserts included cupcakes and custom sugar cookies from Big Mama Sugar Cookies and Easy Peazy Lemon Squeezer baked cake cones topped with gumballs and a birthday cake that would make any candy lover’s dreams come true!
