One of the most significant events in a parent’s life is celebrating their child’s First Birthday! This important milestone means you made it mama! You survived the first year and that’s totally a reason to celebrate! If you’re searching for the perfect party theme for your little one’s first birthday, you’re going to love this Wild ONE party inspired by the classic and beloved children’s book, Where the Wild Things Are! Keep scrolling for all the adorable party details…
Chances are you remember reading Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak yourself as a child or you’ve more recently read it to one of your own children. The story follows Max’s imaginative journey across an island inhabited by beasts know as the “Wild Things” and through their playful adventures together, he’s crowned “King of the Wild Things.” The storybook is full of whimsical and fun inspiration for a child’s birthday party and when little Theo was turning one, his mom knew it was the perfect fit!
Captivated by the story, Pink Pumpkin Events designed the party space to reflect the book’s forest setting beginning with an eye-catching dessert table. The centerpiece for the birthday featured a wooden backdrop with a Wild One banner and balloon garland in black, white, gold with tropical leaves throughout.
A variety of Where the Wild Things Are signs decorated everything from the dessert table to the centerpieces and featured cute sayings from the book. You can recreate this look at home with these printable signs we found on Etsy.
Guests enjoyed a variety of desserts and sweet treats too! Theo’s crown-topped birthday cake and cupcakes were designed by Cakery Arts and the s’mores on a stick were lovingly made by his aunt and grandma.
A few Wild Things Party Supplies we think you’ll love…
Wooden serving platters and moss were used on both the dessert table and as centerpieces to maintain that forest feel throughout the decor. Paired with a lantern and a storybook sign, these focal pieces are perfect along the guests’ tables. I also love the use of the ferns as centerpieces. With the characters tucked inside, they really help the wild theme come alive!
Theo’s guests also signed their names in a keepsake copy of the storybook. This is a wonderful way to remember this special milestone birthday for years to come!
Finally, guests enjoyed cookie party favors, homemade by Theo’s grandma and aunt. These adorable Where the Wild Things Are treat bags are perfect for adding a special treat for your guests to take home.
