Author Jane Austen has captured plenty of hearts with best selling novels like Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility and Emma. And when Laura’s friends were planning her baby shower, they knew basing the party theme on her favorite author was the perfect fit! This English tea party focused on Pride and Prejudice, is full of food, decor and gift ideas that will have you wanting to host your very own Jane Austen Inspired Baby Shower too!
Mom-to-be Laura has always adored Jane Austen’s novel Pride and Prejudice and was eagerly expecting a baby girl who they decided to name Emma. Her friends couldn’t think of a more fitting baby shower theme than to base the food and decor around Austen’s famous book! Go behind the scenes with me and take a look at this English tea party honoring the new mom.
Jane Austen Inspired Party Decor
Friends and family were welcomed into the English themed shower with this darling party banner hanging on the fireplace. A small pink pennant banner hung at the top with the baby’s name, Emma, hanging below along with silhouettes on each side. The Emma Banner was made out of book pages too – such a sweet detail and a simple DIY project, don’t you think?
Another one of my favorite (and easy) baby shower decoration ideas is a onesie banner! These lovely little onesies in shades of pink and white featured quotes from Jane Austen and once the shower is over, are perfect gifts for the mom-to-be!
You can create a similar banner with some of these themed onesies…
Pride and Prejudice Details and Food
Laura’s friends went all out creating a beautiful spread of English Delights for guests to enjoy at the baby shower. Every detail was specific to the time period even down to the menu featuring such delicacies as “Mr. Wickham’s Deviled Eggs.” From tea sandwiches to scones, shortbread an a fruit topped cake, the English tea party food was a big hit!
A tea party is a great time to bring out your lace tablecloths and Grandmother’s china, but if you prefer to keep things simple and easy for cleanup, Talking Tables has a beautiful line of vintage paper party plates that would compliment your decor!
To bring the party theme to life even more, guests enjoyed the chance to show off their incredible knowledge playing Pride and Prejudice Trivia and determined their Regency Hero with fun framed printables placed around the party room.
Jane Austen Lover Gift Ideas
Finally, the mom-to-be enjoyed opening gifts with her friends and family and loved the Jane Austen children’s books she received, like this Pride and Prejudice Board Book…
If you’re in need of gift ideas for a Jane Austen lover, the BabyLit® Storybook line (which is designed to introduce young readers to the classics) has several Jane Austen titles including Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility and Emma.
An English tea party is always a fun party idea for a baby shower and this Pride and Prejudice themed party was a tremendous hit for this Jane Austen lover! I hope the sweet and simple decor gave you some ideas for the next party you host! Be sure to Pin this post to your party planning board too!
