How to Make the Wild Autumn Old Fashioned
The first thing you’ll need to do to make this delicious fall cocktail, is gather your ingredients (full recipe below)! One reason I love this variation of an old fashioned is because it’s pretty simple and straightforward to put together.
The main ingredient is bourbon and we used an open bottle of Bulleit Bourbon my husband got as a gift at his Beer and Bacon 40th Birthday Party. You’ll also need a bottle of bitters (we used Fee Brothers Old Fashioned Aromatic Bitters), dark maple syrup and a grapefruit. You can use grapefruit juice that comes in a bottle if grapefruits aren’t available or in season at the store near you, but I personally think the fresh grapefruit juice tastes better.
Assembling the drink is pretty simple. First, pour in your bourbon and then squeeze your grapefruit juice into the glass. The recipe calls for three tablespoons of fresh juice and I found that to be about the same amount I was able to squeeze out of half of a grapefruit.
Next, you pour in your maple syrup followed by a few dashes of your bitters.
Finally, stir, add some ice and garnish with a twist of grapefruit. And that’s it – a super simple, fall cocktail! Take a sip and enjoy!
