Halloween is the kickoff to the holiday season and what better time of year to get crafty?! Whether you want to plan some festive family time, add some cute decorations to the house, or make some special Halloween decor for your upcoming party, these adorable Halloween Witch Hats are the perfect crafting project to do with your kids this year! Keep scrolling for all the bewitching details…
I’m excited to share this easy, and totally cute, Halloween DIY craft project with you! These darling Witch Hats are perfect for a homeschool art project or a Halloween themed playdate activity and could also be used as Halloween party decorations (more on that in a minute)! However you intend to use them once they’re done, half the fun is making them (or enjoying a few moments of peace while your kids are busy making them)!
Halloween Witch Hat Craft Supplies
If you have young kids around, you likely already have most of the supplies you’ll need lying around the house. However, there are a few Halloween-specific items that may require a trip to the store (or a visit to Amazon) to grab. Here’s what you’ll need for this Witch Hat Craft:
- Large craft sticks (3 per hat)
- Small craft sticks (1 per hat)
- Black paint
- Orange paint
- Spiderweb scrapbook paper (this Martha Stewart Halloween craft paper pack has some really cool spiderweb patterns)
- Orange ribbon
- Plastic spiders
- Glue (regular or hot glue – your call depending on the age of your crafters)
Once all of your supplies are gathered and you have your crafting space set, assembly is pretty easy! Depending on how open you are to creating a mess, you may want to pre-paint the craft sticks. My kids love to paint and I’m not afraid of the clean up, so I usually let them go for it – it’s more fun (even if it’s a little more work for me).
Witch Hat Craft Instructions
First, you’ll paint all of your large craft sticks black and all of your small craft sticks orange. Let them fully dry (or mostly dry at least).
Next, you’ll glue three large black sticks together to form a hat shape.
Then, glue the small orange craft stick along the bottom black stick.
While the hat is drying, grab your craft paper and cut the paper into a triangle that’s slightly larger than your hat opening and glue it to the back of the hat. I used a spiderweb printed craft paper here, but you could use any Halloween themed craft paper that catches your eye.
Next, cut a good length of your orange ribbon and form it into a bow. Glue your bow onto one side of the hat’s brim.
Finally, glue the plastic spider on top of the ribbon and viola! Adorable Halloween Witch Hats!
Give these to grandparents, favorite teachers, best friends or place them around the house as decorations. If you’re hosting a Halloween Party or festive dinner party at your house, you could add a name to each one and use them as place settings.
Or glue them to a black bag and you have the perfect Halloween favor bag for guests to take home! Or string several of them together and add the banner to your mantle or the front of your dessert table! The ideas are endless!
I hope you and your kids give this Halloween Witch Hat Craft a try this fall! Be sure to Pin this post for later party planning and grab our Party Planning Checklist to help plan your Halloween Party with ease!
