First time parents Stella and Matthew were excited to embark on the new adventure of parenthood and celebrate the arrival of their first child! The mom-to-be fell in love with an Up, Up and Away theme for the nursery as she envisioned her little one soaring to new heights as he or she grew in the coming years. It seemed fitting to carry her vision of clouds, balloons and joy to the celebration and throw a beautiful Hot Air Balloon Themed Baby Shower everyone would long remember. Join me in taking a sky high view of this delightfully cheery baby shower!
Hot Air Balloon Decor Ideas
One thing I love about a Hot Air Balloon Themed Baby Shower is its versatility! Depending on your style and preference you could take it the direction Stella did and go “Up, Up and Away,” or Dr. Seuss lovers could do a “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!,” version and die-hard travel lovers might opt for “The Adventure Begins,” or a “Our Greatest Adventure” themed shower. Even though those are slightly different, hot air balloon decor will work beautifully!
Speaking of beautiful decor, check out the scene when guests walked into Stella and Matthew’s shower! The bright pastels of the tablecloths and balloons, coupled with the whimsical clouds hanging from the ceiling created a stunning view inside, that rivaled the picturesque lush greens outside The Terrace Room at Evanston Golf Club outside of Chicago.
A gigantic pastel colored hot air balloon centerpiece was grounded at each table with the basket overflowing with spring florals. The shower, planned and designed by Kensington Florals & Events, really did an outstanding job creating these show stoppers!
You could easily recreate this hot air balloon centerpiece at home using a giant 36-inch balloon, these white hot air balloon nets and a wicker basket filled with flowers! We love how the balloon colors were mix-matched with the tablecloths – it makes the room bright, playful and inviting!
Guests found their tables with these darling custom place cards designed by Devilish Designz, made with 3D hot air balloon cutouts placed atop blue pearl paper to keep with the party theme. In the background you can see a hint of the cotton batting clouds that were used around the party as decor so guests felt like they were floating along all afternoon.
Other themed party decor included this hot air ballon fashioned from vintage map fabric in a wicker basket filled with soft stuffed animals for the new baby. We love this type of decor for a baby shower because it can easily be repurposed in the nursery for the family to enjoy for years to come!

Up, Up and Away Cake Ideas
Shower guests dined on a delicious assortment of fruits, salads, danishes and other goodies before moving on to the stunning cake!
And let’s talk about this cake, because a hot air balloon themed cake is super fun! This brilliant light blue cloud cake, designed by Chicago Sweet Connection Bakery, was topped with a hot air balloon filled with animals designed by Sugar Patch Cakes. We just love the detail that was put into the basket weaving and the rope on the hot air balloon. I’m sure it was almost too adorable to eat!
Each guest went home with the perfect party favors too! Custom onesie and hot air balloon sugar cookies, designed by Orland Park Bakery, were packaged up with a note of appreciation from the mom-to-be.
Finally, the perfect cloud lined photo backdrop with colorful balloons was created to capture memories with family and friends that will last a lifetime.
Overall, this special day for Stella and Matthew was filled with joy and happiness and was the perfect baby shower to welcome the arrival of their soon-to-be-born child. Whatever adventure awaits you next, we hope you found inspiration from this whimsical Up, Up and Away hot air balloon shower! Be sure to Pin this post for later party planning!
